Love eggs? This is your place. They began as a food truck and now run a brilliant bistro built around breakfast: spectacular egg sandwiches, pancakes and great coffee. Informal, occasionally lively and ideal for a lazy weekend morning.

A Japanese izakaya - their version of a pub - right in the centre. Skip predictable sushi for proper street food, excellent okonomiyaki, crisp karaage chicken and Japanese beer on tap. Small, lively and brilliant.

A tucked-away spot on Kounicova where queues are completely normal. The reason is simple: some of the most honest ramen around. No reservations - just arrive, get a bowl of immaculate broth and happily slurp noodles in a tiny, packed room.

A little fine dining with a punk spirit. The plates look like art, but the atmosphere stays wonderfully relaxed. Add top natural wines and thoughtful drinks when you feel like treating yourself.

If Middle Eastern food is your thing, try this tiny bistro near Janáček Theatre. Fantastic falafel and sabich in homemade pita - quick, healthy, largely vegan and outrageously tasty. Proper street food you will want to return to.

JBM Brew Lab Pub
Forget the usual pub lager. This is a hideout and a paradise for beer geeks, with constantly rotating craft specials from around the world - fruity sours, rich stouts and bitter IPAs. The team knows its beer and is happy to offer a taste before you choose.
SKØG Urban Hub
A hipster classic that never disappoints. Beautiful industrial interiors, excellent specialty coffee by day and great drinks at night - plus a strong vegan and vegetarian menu.
Cà Phê Cô
Brno has plenty of Vietnamese bistros, but this one has a very specific punk energy. Colourful plastic stools, good music and seriously authentic bún chả or bánh mì. No fuss, just great food and a brilliant atmosphere.
Pickle
For properly stacked sandwiches, this is the address. Their pastrami and Reuben have already become Brno legends: beautifully seasoned meat, melting cheese, crisp bread and proper pickles. You will get messy, and you will be very happy about it.
