One of Brno's best qualities reveals itself when you have had enough of streets, crowds and planned activities. There is no need to organise a full-day trip or get into a car.
The woods are a fine place to observe, but there is no need to collect or remove anything. Plants, mushrooms and dead wood each have a role in the local ecosystem. If you forage for mushrooms, rely on real expertise and current rules, and never eat an unidentified find. Most visitors are better off taking photographs and leaving everything in place. During dry periods, do not light an open fire or smoke outside permitted areas. A single spark can endanger the landscape people come here to enjoy.
Plan the return with time to spare and before dark. Depending on the route, you can descend towards Pisárky or finish in another part of Brno and take public transport from there. Check the connection while you still have a signal. Leave room afterwards for a late lunch, coffee, a shower or simple rest. The woods above Pisárky work best as a counterweight to the city, not another item on a performance-driven itinerary. You do not need to see everything. It is enough for the sound, the surface beneath your feet and the speed of your thoughts to change for a few hours.
